Luther and Nora Krank (played by Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis) are a suburban couple whose daughter, Blair, leaves home to join the Peace Corps just before Christmas. Feeling the holiday isn’t the same without her, Luther hatches a plan: they’ll skip Christmas entirely and use the money for a luxury Caribbean cruise instead.
They plan to avoid gifts, decorations, parties, and even the office Christmas photo. But their decision doesn’t sit well with their extremely festive neighborhood, led by their overzealous neighbor Vic Frohmeyer (played by Dan Aykroyd). Soon, the Kranks find themselves socially isolated and harassed for not participating in the usual holiday traditions.
Just when they think they’ve escaped the chaos, a surprise twist turns everything upside down: Blair calls to say she’s coming home for Christmas—and bringing her fiancé! With no decorations, no food, and no party planned, the Kranks scramble to pull off a miracle Christmas at the last minute—with the help of the very neighbors they tried to avoid.
