The story begins when Madea is bribed by her friend Eileen (Anna Maria Horsford) to travel with her to a rural town in Alabama to surprise Eileen’s daughter Lacey (Tika Sumpter) for Christmas. What Eileen doesn’t know is that Lacey has secretly married a white farmer, Connor (Eric Lively), and is trying to keep the marriage a secret, especially from her very traditional mother.
As Madea crashes into their lives with her usual brand of chaos, she ends up bringing truth, healing, and hilarious holiday madness to the family, town, and local school, where Lacey is a teacher.
Meanwhile, the town is facing issues of its own — a large agricultural company is threatening the local economy, and tensions around race, identity, and honesty bubble to the surface just in time for the holiday season.
